If you’ve been by the store recently, you may have visited our new beer cellar. We’re really excited about it over here at Cool Springs Wines & Spirits. As you walk in the store, just head directly to your left.

It’s currently located where Frank’s Value Cellar used to be. But don’t worry! Frank’s value wines are still located in that general location. The truth is that Frank’s Value Cellar outgrew that location and needed a little more room to spread its wings. The leftover space was perfect for a beer cellar.

Why a beer cellar? For those of you new to the interesting beer laws in Tennessee, it breaks down like this. To sell any beer above 6.2% alcohol, you must have a liquor license. Thus you can’t find many of the best beers available in grocery or regular beer stores. To get the best IPAs, seasonals, stouts, barley wines, meades, porters, Belgians, bocks, etc…you have to go to a bar or a liquor store like Cool Springs Wines & Spirits.

If you’re a beer lover, you must stop by and see our selection. It keeps getting bigger and brighter every day.

Cimay PremiereSchlafly American India Pale Ale by St. Louis Brewery, Maplewood, Missouri
Out of all the North American producers, St. Louis Brewery seems to be one of the best at getting the balance just right. Arguably the most important factor in a pale ale is the balance between malt and hop, so It comes as no surprise that the Schlafly American India Pale Ale is just about as good as this style gets.

India Pale Ales were originally hopped so as to preserve them for the long voyage from Britain to India. It didn't take long for beer drinkers to realize that hops weren't just great preservatives, they are addictively tasty as well. American Pale Ales are simply those which use the often stronger flavors of American-grown hops, but the American style also tends to be more in-your-face and often a little over-hopped. However, one can always count on the Schlafly line to be balanced and restrained, but in a good way.

This American IPA doesn't offer any surprising flavors, but that's all right, because this IPA does exactly what it should, and it does it very well. There is a powerful caramel/toffee-based malt character, but this essentially exists as a vehicle to balance the powerful American hop presence. The result is very impressive: plenty of tropical fruit, pine, and general citrus flavors dominate the palate, and there is plenty of bitterness (not a bad thing in this style), but none of it is ever presented excessively. The final product is a refreshing, yet full and robust ale that is very hard to top in its price range.

This one comes to us in mid summer and sells out fast, so pick one up soon.
