Rogue Old Crustacean Barley Wine brewed by Rogue Ales in Newport, Oregon - This unfiltered and unrefined Barleywine pours an opaque brown color. A moderate beige head leaves a nice lacing on the glass. It has a rich malty nose with notes of molasses, dried fruit, caramel, and nutty toffee. The palate offers a sweet attack with the hops picking up and really kicking in on the finish. Flavors are wide and varied. Don't be surprised to pick out molasses, brown and dark sugar, licorice, nuttiness, petrol, mint leaves, and plenty of floral hops. Amazingly complex brew if you can afford the higher price tag.
